Welcome

My name is James Stratford. I’ve been writing on this since 2008.  I am a keen cyclist living in the GreenWedge of Melbourne, Australia. Most of my writing is inspired by own reflections on life as I navigate through challenges of my own life as a father, husband, student, writer, teacher and cyclist.  I started writing this for my life coaching clients and the coaching/teaching element has remained at the centre. At the time I was also doing my PhD in Classics on the ancient hero Achilles in Homer’s Iliad. Far from just an academic pursuit, the hero’s journey is something that has guided my own approach to life for the past 20+ years and it finds its way into much of my writing.

Since the end of the PhD in 2010, the focus of my writing has been on cycling. Rather, it is the context, the living metaphor through which I explore internally and ask questions of myself and the world.  Time on the bike is often a time for reflection on these major life transitions. I hope you find them useful, even inspiring, whether you’re a cyclist or not. It’s all about the journey, embracing all that it throws up at us and learning to honour the hero that dwells within each and every one of us.

  1. Hi it is not Snow White but sometimes feel like her…. but funny how we bump in to people in our lives when our lives are not always where we thought we would like to be…. I had a little look at your Blog…. Me no Blog just Face Book and some wonderful relatives and friends who are my rock when needed 🙂 regards Jen

  2. Hi James,

Thanks so much for visiting my blog–much appreciated 🙂 Your site looks very interesting and a place I plan to explore a bit, esp since this is currently a near/dear topic to my heart of late.

    Take care and thanks again!

  3. thanks so much for liking my blog post. I hope you will find other posts of interest on my blog as well..or perhaps on my older blog: http://mindfulnessjournal.wordpress.com

I have begun exploring your blog now and it seems I will find much food for thought here as well. I like this quote of yours
“The journey of awakening starts at home. It starts with an internal process of healing which is focussed on our selves, our families and our communities. Not even the Sun can light the whole world at once. Only by creating millions and billions of lights can this be achieved.”
I also always hope to reach as many readers as possible to “light up” as many life journeys as possible along the way. Any little thing that we can do to be of assistance to another, is of course going to benefit humankind in general
much love light and JOY to you
    Jane

  4. I was on another blog and saw a comment by you. There was nothing that stand out about the comment, but I was drawn to click on your blog and I am so glad I followed that intuitive thought! I am now following and will be spending some time reading your blog post.

    Peace and Harmony,
    Sj
